Why door-to-door is different in the Canaries
Within mainland Europe, a lorry from Germany drives right up to your door. Everything reaching Tenerife arrives by sea or by air, and on arrival there is a tax border: the Canaries are in the EU customs union but outside the EU VAT area. Even goods from mainland Spain need a customs declaration (DUA) and are charged IGIC, plus AIEM on some products.
If the seller or the carrier at origin only handles their own leg, the shipment can sit at the port: someone has to file the declaration, pay the taxes and arrange delivery. Freight matters too: the IGIC base is the customs value plus transport costs to the first place of destination in the Canaries.
What door-to-door coordination covers
- Collection at origin: from the factory, your supplier's warehouse or a home address.
- Main transport: road and ferry, full container, groupage or air, depending on volume and urgency (more in sea, air and road).
- Canary Islands customs: declaration, IGIC, AIEM and, from outside the EU, duty.
- Delivery in Tenerife: to your warehouse, your site or your home.
If you buy with delivery included (for example on DAP or DDP Incoterms), check with the seller who handles clearance and IGIC in the Canaries.
How we coordinate it
- Online quote: on WhatsApp or by phone, with origin, delivery point in Tenerife, type of goods, weight, volume and urgency.
- Documents: we check the invoice, packing list and what customs will need.
- Collection and transport: we organise collection and the main leg through our network of more than 35 business partners.
- Declaration and taxes: we file the declaration and handle IGIC, AIEM and duty.
- Delivery: once cleared, we coordinate delivery to your address in Tenerife.
What we need from you
- Collection address and a contact person at origin.
- Invoice or pro forma, plus a packing list with weights and dimensions.
- Description of the goods (and whether they are fragile, chilled or dangerous).
- Delivery address in Tenerife and delivery times.
- The consignee's NIF or NIE (and EORI for businesses).
Door-to-door questions
Can you deal with my Amazon or AliExpress parcel?
No. Postal and courier parcels are held by Correos or the courier until they are cleared; KLC Aduanas does not receive or store parcels. We can, however, prepare the import DUA if you are asked for one.
Who pays the IGIC on a door-to-door shipment?
Normally the consignee in the Canaries, as the importer. If the seller offers delivered duty paid (DDP), they cover it, so check before you buy.
How long does it take?
It depends on the origin, transport mode and clearance. We do not quote generic transit times; with your shipment details we suggest a route and timing.
